About the Customer
Launched in 2021, VideoCrypt is one of the leading interactive and security video streaming platforms. It is popular for enabling content creators and video publishers to stream live and on-demand videos in SD-480p, HD-720p, FHD-1080p or UHD-4K quality. Also, it assists them in streaming their premium content live at low latency (2 to 3 seconds) as per the viewer's requirements in this competitive landscape.
VideoCrypt, the biggest edge and elemental media services partner, allows content creators to provide an immersive live streaming experience to all their viewers. With its help, content creators can leverage the live-to-VOD feature to efficiently store, manage, and optimize their premium videos on the cloud using Amazon S3. Amazon CloudFront facilitates the delivery of these videos, while multi-DRM ensures their security.
With a complex multi-region deployment and a growing technology stack, VideoCrypt recognized the need for robust cloud governance and financial management to maintain competitive advantage and operational excellence.
Service Partnership
VideoCrypt partnered with AppSquadz and AWS to tackle these challenges head-on. Leveraging AppSquadz's expertise in cloud engineering and AWS's robust cloud services, the collaboration aimed to create a transformative solution tailored to VideoCrypt's unique needs.
Challenges Experienced by VideoCrypt
- Unclear Cost Attribution Across Services and Workloads
As Videocrypt rapidly scaled its video processing and distribution services, cloud expenses also grew. However, the company lacked a granular cost attribution mechanism to distinguish spending across different projects, environments (such as development, staging, and production), and customer-facing services. Without detailed tagging and workload-based tracking, Videocrypt could not accurately assign costs to specific teams or services, making it difficult to forecast budgets, manage cloud consumption effectively, and identify areas for cost optimization.
- Lack of Automated Backup and Recovery Processes
Videocrypt relied on manual backup procedures, which were time-consuming, inconsistent, and error-prone. Backups were performed on an ad-hoc basis without centralized scheduling, and there was no streamlined process for verifying backup integrity. This exposed the company to potential data loss in the event of system failure, accidental deletions, or security incidents, and recovery processes would likely require extended downtime due to the absence of an automated restoration framework.
- Absence of Continuous Customer Engagement Mechanisms
Although Videocrypt was serving a growing SMB customer base, it did not have an established, structured process to regularly collect customer feedback, measure service satisfaction, or proactively address customer concerns. The company lacked formalized customer surveys, post-implementation reviews, and scheduled follow-ups. This limited their ability to understand customer pain points, track service improvement areas, and demonstrate a commitment to customer-centric growth.
The Solution We Delivered
- Implemented Cost Allocation Tags and Workload-Based Cost Tracking
To resolve cost visibility issues, AppSquadz designed and enforced a comprehensive tagging strategy across all AWS resources. Each resource was tagged by project name, environment (dev/staging/prod), application layer (frontend/backend/database), and customer account where applicable. AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Budgets were configured to create custom cost views by workload, service, and project, providing detailed cost reporting. This enabled Videocrypt’s finance and operations teams to accurately track where cloud resources were being consumed and to manage spending proactively.
- Automated Backup Management with AWS Backup and Lifecycle Policies
We deployed AWS Backup to create an automated, policy-driven backup framework that consistently protected all critical services including Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon EFS, and other supported AWS resources. Backup plans included daily incremental backups and weekly full backups, with lifecycle policies that automatically moved backups to cost-effective storage tiers based on retention schedules. This solution ensured that Videocrypt’s data was consistently backed up, easily recoverable, and compliant with recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
- Established a Customer Feedback Loop and Satisfaction Tracking Process
AppSquadz worked with Videocrypt to implement a formalized customer engagement process that included automated post-project surveys, quarterly feedback sessions, and scheduled follow-ups to review ongoing satisfaction and gather actionable input. Feedback data was collected, analyzed, and used to generate customer health scores, which were integrated into Videocrypt’s continuous improvement framework. This process not only ensured regular customer touchpoints but also provided the company with measurable insights to guide product and service enhancements.
Results:
- Improved Cost Visibility and Optimized Cloud Spending
The tagging and workload-based cost tracking solution gave Videocrypt full transparency into its cloud expenditure, enabling them to associate costs directly with specific teams, projects, and customer workloads. This insight allowed the company to identify underutilized resources and optimize spending, achieving a measurable 15% reduction in overall monthly cloud costs within the first three months of implementation.
- Resilient, Automated Backup and Faster Recovery Capability
The automated backup and lifecycle management solution significantly reduced manual intervention and minimized the risk of human error. Videocrypt achieved consistent, verified backups with guaranteed retention policies. Recovery times were cut in half, reducing the Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) by 50%, and the company improved its disaster recovery readiness by enabling rapid restoration of key systems without disruption.
- Enhanced Customer Satisfaction and Improved Service Quality
The structured customer feedback process led to a measurable increase in customer satisfaction scores and more responsive service delivery. Videocrypt’s SMB clients appreciated the proactive engagement, leading to a 20% improvement in customer satisfaction within six months. The feedback loop also enabled Videocrypt to make targeted enhancements to its platform and processes based on real customer input, strengthening customer loyalty and driving ongoing service improvement.
