Which is better – Corporate Job or Startup?

Corporate Job or Startup

With social startups and the Internet gaining attention in the media from the last couple of years, many people would think that joining a small business is the best career move. And, as there are plentiful benefits of working in a startup environment, big companies also offer a lot. So which is better- Corporate Job or Startup? Read below to know in detail.

Reasons to Work at a Startup-

Most startups are popular for having a laid-back, fun environment. You will rarely find a formal dress-code policy or thick book of employee manual. Startups generally offer casual dress codes, a fun atmosphere which often fades the line between fun and work, and plentiful of employee morale encouraging activities. However, never let the casual dress code make you think that everything is fun and game. Successful startups employ people who are very innovative and motivated and will expect the same out of you. You want your colleagues and boss to have great expectations so you will give your best.

Startups generally operate at the swift pace. They are persistently trying to impress customers, develop technology, functionalize processes, appoint employees and pitch investors. With such persistent efforts increased the opportunity for more projects per person than you will find at a big organization. Moreover, if there are a lot of responsibilities, it means that there is going to be a lot of opportunities to shine and excel.

Most of the start-ups are not able to achieve the objectives they aim for. However, for those which do, the employees who joined at the starting can make out quite well financially. This can happen in many ways; quick promotions within the company, better earning, stock options, and a better job in case joining a different company. After all, every company wants to hire winners.

After reading this, don’t straight away jump from your big company job to join a startup. Like everything, there are boon and bane of working in a startup, and big companies can provide a lot of advantages that startups just can’t contend with. Below are some reasons to work at a big company.

Reasons to Work for a Big Company-

Looking to learn a new technology, want to attend a seminar, or want to get reimbursed for further education? It is almost not possible in the startup. On the other hand, a big company has the cash to fund such types of training. Beginning a career at a large company can provide long-term value by enhancing your job skills through training and education.

Large Workforce:

In the big organization, you’re more likely to come across a lot of smart, skilled and creative people to learn from and connect with. Having such connection down the line in your career can be very helpful. Also, searching mentors to guide you in your career moves may end at large company as you may easily encounter such people in there.

Startups Are Tough:

In clear words, if working in a startup atmosphere would have been easy, everyone would have joined it. The working hours are long, advantages are slim, and the risk is big. Employees who are searching for a stable environment and a “comfy” job shouldn’t look for a startup.

Deciding whether to work at a big company or startup can be quite difficult. There are pros and cons of both. Anyone switching a job from one type of company to another requires understanding what’s crucial in their life and then figuring out which type of organization to go for.

USA Wearables Market is Not Doing Good

Wearables Market in USA

Apple may still be asserting that sales of its Apple Watch are “going great,” but in general, the wearable device class is not growing at the rates anticipated earlier. As from sources, Wearables such as Fitbit and Apple Watch were projected to grow over 60 percent year-over-year from 2015-2016. However, the company is now shortening that estimate down to just 25% growth this year.

In contrast to other device categories, wearables gadgets have struggled to gain footing beyond early adopters. And with smartwatches, customers struggle to find a reason to buy.

The eMarketer analyst Nicole Perrin started that before Apple Watch came to the picture, fitness trackers conquered the space. At present, health and fitness tracking remain the key selling point for the new sorts of wearable devices, Apple Watch added.

However, Apple hasn’t influenced everyone that a smartwatch is something they require, particularly considering the higher prices in contrast with standard fitness trackers for the enhanced functionality of watches.

The company projects that 39.5 million U.S. adults will use a wearable gadget with internet connectivity at least once in a month. Conversely, this is much less than the 63.7 million eMarketer estimated earlier in October 2015. The use of wearable gadgets will only reach 15.8% of the population, and is only predicted to rise to 21.1% by 2020.

eMarketer isn’t the only firm identifying the issues in the wearables market. Earlier this month, IDC reported that the number of smartwatch were on the decline, with Apple falling to fourth place after a 71% year-by-year fall in total shipments. However, Fitbit topped the category with 23% of the market and 5.3 million units shipped in the quarter.

In addition, IDC had said this past October that smartwatch sales were failing completely, with entire shipments down to 51.6% from the same time previous year.

Apple had replied to IDC’s recent report by hyping the Apple Watch’s success in contrast with its own previous sales. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the sales of Apple Watch hit a record at the first week of holiday shopping, and that the present quarter is on track to be the best so far.

It’s not unanticipated that the sale of Apple watch was better than before during the 2016 holidays – after all, this is the real time of the year where people prefer to raise their spending. Moreover, Apple launched a new version of its smartwatch ahead of the holiday season which likely added to the bump.

However, it seems that this bump may not be able to save the wearable category all together.

Use of lot to Monitor And Predict Air Pollution

Air Pollution

Air Pollution

Modern Technologies such as lot can be considered very useful in fighting the ever-increasing pollution. This choking war will need to be fought at two fronts – firstly minimizing pollution and secondly predicting and reacting on real-time basis. This brings us to tracking and monitoring parameters that raises air pollution levels in cities.

Customized sensors can help in recording, storing and analyzing data. With rise in affordable sensors which collect data and with modern storage capabilities, new options keep on emerging, assisting in tracking pollution in a more clear way in real time with reduced costs. Therefore, they are useful in decisions aimed at predicting and preventing pollution. Incorporated with other data sources like the weather station, demographic, and social media data, analysis can be used to yield real-time insight for actions to enhance air quality.

This new technology will provide us with important insights as how to solve this serious issue, which means higher chances to resolve them. Knowing where pollution is actually coming from and how much amount of is present in the air will help make swift and precise actions to overcome it?

Let’s take an example, when sensors detects that air pollution is getting increasing in a particular area, traffic police can be asked to move traffic to other routes which are less congested. Likewise, other responses could comprise method such as allocation of extra medical staff in areas where larger number of patients with respiratory ailments are residing, regulating industries about pollution, etc. Such methods will help in managing manage the issue on a real-time basis. Pollution can also be tackled by leveraging this technology by making smarter use of public resources like energy or water. For example, sensor-enabled street lights could automatically adjust it after analyzing the number of people present in an area at a particular time.

As per a recent study, air pollution is responsible for taking lives of more than 5.5 million people worldwide every year and half of these deaths occur in China and India mainly. Delhi’s toxic smog scenario is a wake-up call for everyone. A much needed action should be taken now – not only by the government but also by the citizens to curb any such recurrences in the future. If the country wants to progress on the path of growth and development, this is the time to act.

The new prices which most of the developers will be concerned about are of S3, which is AWS’ primary cloud storage service. Unlike the six pricing tiers previously, S3 will now feature only three: 0-50 TB; 50 TB-500 TB; and 500+ TB. In most of the places, the prices for S3 will fall by about 20 percent.

In case of Glacier, which AWS’ cold storage service for data that one want to keep in a safe spot but would not be using too much, the price drops are even more significant. In three of the AWS regions (Ireland, Oregon and Northern Virginia), you can now store your data for a mere $0.004 GB/month. This is a straight 43 percent drop in the price of Amazon Glacier.

The more important news for Glacier user is the addition of 2 new retrieval choices. Glacier is set up in a way that it usually takes a while before a data is ready for download. And, this is what lets AWS to provide the service at a very low price; however it can only be used for cold storage and nothing else. Now, Amazon is introducing 2 new option to Glacier which lets users to pay a little extra to receive their data quicker — or one can save a little more by receiving it even slower than Glacier’s default 3 to 5 hour waiting period.

Now, with the new ‘expedited’ option, you will just need to pay $0.03 per 1 GB and $0.01 per request when you get back data and you will get your download within 5 minutes. Amazon Web Services claims that this feature will work best for users who have data in TBs in Glacier.

Moreover, there are 2 types of expedited data retrievals: one is on-demand and second is provisioned retrievals. While On-demand retrievals functions as per the rules mentioned above, Provisioned retrievals are different from it. They will cost about $100 per unit making sure that the facility for your expedited retrieval is available whenever you require it. Every $100 unit promises that you will be able to perform 3 expedited retrievals every 5 minutes with up to 150MB/second throughput. In case you don’t go for these extra units, the expedited retrievals will only be allowed when the capacity to accomplish them will be available.

Furthermore, in case you don’t mind how much time it takes to retrieve your data out of Glacier, then the latest ‘bulk’ options is perfect for you. In bulk option, you retrieve requests may take about 5 to 12 hours, but it will only cost $0.0025 per 1 GB and $0.025 for every 1,000 requests.

Well, a really great news for folks looking to or already are taking services from AWS.

Google is Launching PhotoScan App for Android and iOS

Google PhotoScan App

Google’s cloud photo storage and sharing service, aims to be a one stop destinations to everyone’s photographs. But till now, this service has only been offered to the digital photos and personal videos we shoot. The company is expanding the services by launching a new tool named as ‘PhotoScan’ which help convert printed photos into high-quality digital copies.

Generally, there are a couple of ways to convert printed photos into digital ones. One way is to ship them to a scanning service, second way is to buy a scanner and scan manually and the third one is use your phone to take a picture of the existing, printed photographs.

The third method is what most of the people prefer as it’s the easiest and the fastest method to turn printed photos into the digital one.

However, this doesn’t give high-quality photographs. Instead, photos snapped with Smartphone’s camera usually have some sort of glare from the surrounding light spread across the image. Also the photos generally are not aligned properly; and if not cropped, sometimes it may even show the surface on which they’re placed for taking a snap.

On the other hand, Google’s PhotoScan will help you take photos of such prints, and then it will automatically resolve such common issues. The way it resolve these issues is quite interesting. This simple mobile application will take you to the camera’s viewfinder. When overlaid on top of the print you’re about to click, you will find four white dots. You will need to direct the phone over each dot by moving, which will enable Google to take multiple clicks of the photo from several angles. This will help you get different images where the glare would have been moved around, as well.

Then the PhotoScan will make use of different snaps of the same image to render a single image without any glare. Not only this, the app also offers features such as rotating, aligning, and removing the background (for example table surface).

Although, you may have come across number of similar application to PhotoScan on the store, such as’s Shoebox, Photomyne, Memories, Heirloom, and some others, but while these apps only help in cropping and straightening, none of them offer such a unique feature which PhotoScan will offer.

While the updated Google Photos app is coming today, the PhotoScan is also going live today as a free download for both Android and iOS.
